Guangdong knitwear industry has the largest production capacity in the country. It is the top knit goods production base in Asia as well as in the world, with an annual consumption of over 800,000 tons of knitting yarn.
Guangdang denim production capacity ranks first in the country, with annual yarn consumption reaching 500,000 tons in manufacturing sector and total usage exceeding 1.3 million tons.
Currently, Province has approximately 1.6 million ring spinning spindles and about 4500 air-jet spinning spindles. In 2006, above-scale enterprises produced 350,000 tons yarns, a 5 percent decrease from the same period in 2005.
On one hand, Guangdong exports 152,000 tons of cotton yarn every year and on the other, still imports 300,000 tons of high-grade yarn per year. However, special yarns and core-spun yarns are still mainly produced in the Province.
