China : High Cotton Prices May Result in Factory Closures

Since mid-2002, the price of domestic cotton has risen 40 per cent, from 1,000 yuan (HK$942) per tonne to 1,400 yuan per tonne.This was almost 500 yuan per tonne more than for imported cotton.
