China : Meet sets twin goals for textile industry

In a recent meeting held to chalk out the '11th 5-year Plan of the textile industry', Chinese Textile Industry Association set technology and innovation as the twin goals for the industry to achieve in 2007.

The meeting, which took place in Beijing, was attended by representatives of China Cotton Association, Chinese Investment Committee and government officials.

So far, work in 28 key areas of technology underlined in the Plan has begun on a large scale. Apart from this, the country's textile and clothing industry has set long-term tasks for itself like saving water, energy and reducing discharge of waste into the environment.

Vice-Chairman of Chinese Textile Industry Association also pointed out the important role that the association has played since its establishment. He added that the association must adapt to new circumstances and developments and strive to become a modern organization.
