Japan : Synthetic Fibre Giant Toray Profit Up 52%

 Japan's biggest producer of synthetic fibres, Toray Industries Inc, on Friday posted a 52 per cent year-on-year jump in full year net profit to 5.8 billion yen and said it expects that figure to grow to nine billion yen in fiscal 2004.

The Tokyo-based firm attributed that profit growth to its telecom operations and a cost-cutting programme although operating profit at its textile unit rose 13 per cent to 10.4 billion yen despite a slip in sales to 419.5 billion yen.
