China : Congfu becomes country's fur centre

Congfu town in Zhejiang Province's Tongxiang city has emerged as the largest fur clothes producing centre in the country.

According to latest data made available, the sale of fur garments in Congfu accounts for 40 percent of the total fur clothing sale in China and nearly 20 percent of the total global sales.

However, because of RMB appreciation, decrease of export rebate rate, rise of labour costs and warm winters, the country's fur clothing industry is carrying out various production and design adjustments.

They have decided to change the make of fur garments to light and thin. Even the style of dresses has been altered from long to short.

Apart from keeping an eye on exports, Chinese fur clothing enterprises are also actively developing the domestic market.

A 'Fur World' is being planned in Congfu which will showcase the latest in fur clothing. It also aims to bring local fur enterprises under one roof.
