International Symposium on Geotextiles in India

2008-10-7
‘International Symposium on Geotextiles in India- What, Where & Why’
to Focus on Geotextile Applications in
Roads, Highways, Airports, Dams, Canals, Rivers, Railways & Landfills

Geotextile consumption is likely to grow at a rate of more than 15% per annum in India. This growth rate is directly related to some of the infrastructure segments in India which are growing manifolds and are likely to see huge investments in the coming years. Bringing forth the developments in these segments, the symposium will target areas such as roads, highways, airports, railways, dams, canals, rivers and landfills and highlight upon how geotextiles play different roles and functions in diverse engineering projects.
The main objective of the one day international symposium on ‘Geotextiles in India- What, Where & Why’ being organized by Business Co-ordination House (BCH) on 17 October 2008 in Mumbai, India is to bring together users as well as suppliers on a common interface and therefore address the key issues of concern that need to be kept in mind while selecting appropriate geotextiles, designing projects using geotextiles and installing geotextiles.

The speakers, who are experts in their respective fields and have made imperative contributions towards the development of this industry at various milestones, will bring together and voice the common interest of this industry.

Mr. P. K. Nanda of Intercontinental Consultants & Technocrats will talk about the significance of geotextiles in roads & highways derived from his years of experience in this feild. This will be further reinforced by Mr. M. Venkatraman of Garware Wall Ropes who will throw light on some significant case studies based on the usage of geosynthetics in roads & highways. Mr. Klaus-Peter Wendt, LIBA Maschinenfabrik GmbH will further through light upon the manufacturing of warp knitted geotextiles and their applications.

Mr. V. Bhave, Central Water & Power Research Station through his experience in bank protection works will present on how geotextiles can be effectively used for protecting river banks and controlling erosion.

Dams & Canals being a significant area for geosynthetics, Mr. V. Subramanian, Carpi India Waterproofing Specialists Private Limited will present on the topic ‘Leakage treatment with PVC Geomembrane System on  the  Upstream of the Dam’.

The use of geosynthetics in constructing a landfill will be stressed by Mr. Arun Aggarwal, Ramky Enviro Engineers who will not only lay emphasis on the use of geosynthetics for constructing effective landfills but also throw light upon problems faced & other technical features. Prof. B. V. S. Vishwanadham, IIT Mumbai will highlight the use of geosynthetics in environment engineering through his presentation ‘Potential of Geosynthetics in Environmental Infrastructure Applications’. Also Mr. Jinny Thomas, Techfab, will focus on ‘Usage of Geosynthetics in Railway Applications’.
The concluding session of the symposium will have presentations from Mr. Sudhir Mathur, Central Road Research Institute; Mr. Tapobrata Sanyal, Jute Manufacturer’s Development Council and Mr. V. K. Patil & Dr. A. N. Desai, Bombay Textile Research Association who will bring forth few of the eminent case studies, application of jute geotextiles in mines & the importance of testing geotextiles respectively.

Issues and queries of both the manufacturers as well as users will be answered with deliberations coming out of years of experience and future vision.
