The downturn in clothing exports to the European Union continued in the first months of 2003 with turnover down 28 per cent from the year-ago period to $118 million, official data revealed on Friday.
Figures compiled by the Ministry of Trade said April shipments to Europe fell 14 per cent from March to $23.4m and they expect the trend to continue for several more months due to a weak global economy.
They added orders to the US in the same period soared to $700m on the back of recent trade agreements with overall export turnover for the January to April period standing at $1.1 billion.
