Clothes CPI Rising Again, Caused by Cotton Price Soaring

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 4.4% in October from the same period last year. The pace of growth was 0.8 percentage point higher than that in September. Divided by categories, the urban area CPI rose 4.2%, while rural area CPI rose 4.7%. Foodstuff CPI rose 10.1%, while non-foodstuff CPI rose 1.6%; consumer goods price rose 5.0%; while service cost rose 2.5%. By the category of products, Clothes CPI went down 1.3%. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.7% from previous month. Divided by categories, the urban area CPI rose 0.7%, while rural area CPI rose 0.6%. Foodstuff CPI rose 1.1%, while non-foodstuff CPI rose 0.4%; consumer goods price rose 0.7%; while service cost rose 0.4%. By the catogey of products, Clothes CPI rose 1.0%.

The Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 5.0% in October from the same period last year. The pace of growth was 0.7 percentage point higher than that in September. Divided by categories, the production material price rose 5.8%. Of which, mineral industry PPI rose 11.8%; raw material industry rose 8.5%; processing industry rose 3.8%. Customer goods PPI rose 2.6%. Of which, foodstuff PPI rose 5.3%; clothes PPI rose 1.8%; general customer goods PPI rose 2.2%, consumer durables PPI went down 0.7%. While on a monthly basies, the PPI rose 0.7% in October from previous month.

From Jan. to October, the CPI rose 3.0%. This is 0.1 point higher than that of first nine months. Of which, the clothes CPI went down 1.1%. The PPI in first ten months rose 5.5%, the same pace of growth as the first nine months. Of which, the clothes PPI rose 1.8%.
