The Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce will organise a high-level team visit from Italy to assess the possibilities of strengthening the use of information technology in the production process of the knitwear industry in Tirupur and Coimbatore, during the last week of February. The main objective of this mission is to promote e-commerce in the garment sector to facilitate exports from India to Europe, especially Italy, Greece and Spain. The chamber would like to establish a supply chain network of textile and garment companies (subcontractors, suppliers and producers) to enable a two-way information track between India and Europe and disseminate advanced, tailored e-business devices, according to a chamber release. The proposed mission follows the visit of a 20-member business team from Tirupur to Treviso in Italy under the chamber's sponsorship towards the end of January. The Indian team visited the factories of Monti, a fabric manufacturer, and Petersant, a garment manufacturer, both of whom cater to the international market. "The team saw how research and development, fashion trends, quality and finish go hand in glove to contribute to the finished products in the hands of fashion designers", the release adds. After a separate meeting with Treviso Tecnologia (RPT TECNOLOGIA) and other collaborators, the Secretary-General of the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce, Andrea Bonardi, disclosed that a hub for information exchange would be established at the Chennai Regional Office of the chamber to coordinate future programmes of cooperation. He envisaged the training of an Indian student in Italy (in relation to textiles), visit of teachers from the NIFT TEA Institute (established by the National Institute of Fashion Technology and the Tirupur Exporters' Association) and experts from the Textiles Committee to Italy, to be followed by a delegation of Italian textile companies to Tirupur for business meetings.
