Gerber China now have automated material spreading systems unit |

Beginning in July, Gerber Technology, a business unit of Gerber Scientific Inc, will relocate the manufacture of its computer-automated material spreading systems from Ikast, Denmark to Shanghai, China. The move supports Gerber’s ongoing commitment to deliver in-country support to its customers in China and throughout Asia Pacific and provide its customers around the world with the competitive advantage and leverage of Gerber’s global supply chain. Products slated for the move include GERBERspreaders XLs50 and XLs125 models, spreading tables, material feeding systems and other spreading-related options.
Speaking from Gerber’s Asia Pacific headquarters in Shanghai, Tom Finn, president of Asia Pacific and senior vice president of Global Operations said, “Gerber Technology has been successfully manufacturing products in China since 2004. In fact, we recently celebrated the shipment of our 500th China-made cutter. Last year, we introduced and received a very positive global reception to our first China-developed, China-manufactured product – the high-performing GERBERplotter XLp. Our industry-leading spreading systems are an integral part of our comprehensive automated cutting room solution, and we are pleased about the enhanced value we will deliver to our customers around the world as a result of this move.”
Enabled by GERBERconnect technology, Gerber supports its products through one of the largest service and support networks in the industry consisting of sales executives, field service professionals, agents and distributors in 129 countries, parts distribution centers in the U.S, Europe and Asia, and advanced technology centers in Belgium, Vietnam and China.

Currently, China is the world’s largest supplier of textiles and garments producing some $300 billion worth of garments – a full 40 percent of the world’s apparel production. It is the largest source of textile and garment imports into the USA, the European Union and Japan.
