Pakistan : Textile Quota Exports Increases 30 Percent

During the first six months of the quota year 2003 the textile quota exports to US, European Union [EU], Canada and Turkey increased by 30 per cent in value and 19 per cent in quantity.

According to provisional figures of quota exports up to July 8 by the Export Promotion Bureau [EPB], the highest growth of 64 per cent in value was registered in exports to Turkey followed by EU 38 per cent; Canada 32 per cent and US 20 per cent.

In terms of quantity except for US where exports registered a minus growth of 4.7 per cent, quota exports grew by 57 per cent for Turkey; followed by EU 24 per cent and Canada 15.4 per cent.

The average unit price for Pakistan textile growth increased by 26 per cent for US; Canada 14 per cent; EU 11 per cent and Turkey 5 per cent.

The total exports made during the period under review were 1,933.4 million square metres worth $1,380.4 million.

Of these exports made to US were 407 million square metres worth $588 million; EU 1,342 million square metres worth $717 million; Canada 18.9 million square metres worth $25 million, and Turkey 165 million square metres worth $49.4 million.
