NY Fashion Week: All about being chic

2011-9-15

BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- There was an outpouring of celebrity love for designer Alexander Wang at his off-site runway show during New York Fashion Week on Saturday. Also, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, the designers of Rag & Bone, turned out a new spring collection on Friday of the Fashion Week.

Wang's collection was full of sporty details. There were technical fabrics, oversized pockets, exposed zippers, mesh and sharp laser-cut details. He also included lots of layers that mixed many textures, but nothing seemed too heavy for the season.

He included miniskirts and walking shorts, cargo vests and track jackets.

There were references to track and field, auto racing, BMX and football jerseys.

The designers of Rag & Bone, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, embraced wearable layers in their catwalk show. They wanted it to be about more than the expected neoprene, although Wainwright said '70s surfers served as an inspiration.'

The outfits came together in a way that suits the label's fashion-forward customer. The key pieces, including those ponchos, crochet tops, neon bikinis, leather hooded sweatshirts, gaucho pants and asymmetrical skirts, could stand on their own in the closets of the designers' fans.

Now we move on to American designer Tommy Hilfiger's runway show on Sunday. There, the preppy woman took a colorful Pop Art trip for the designer's Spring 2012 collection.

Cotton raincoats got a dose of color blocking to keep the rainy day blues away.

Color-drenched leather reflected the Pop Art trend. A red leather button-down shirt with short sleeves, which could double as a jacket for spring, met its match with a red leather skirt. Yellow leather put a modern twist on the preppy long-sleeved shirtdress with its shirttail hem.

The Fashion Week will continue through Thursday in Lincoln Center in New York.
