INVISTA-SCIPAC to jointly develop nylon intermediates plant

2011-11-24
INVISTA, a world leader in nylon intermediates and fibers, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park Administration Commission (SCIPAC), signifying the two parties’ intention to jointly advance development of Phase 1 of the company’s nylon 6,6 intermediates and polymer project at the chemical park.

The signing ceremony, witnessed by Shanghai Municipal Government Vice Mayor Mr. Ai Bao Jun and other senior leaders from Shanghai, took place at the chemical park’s 15th anniversary celebration event.

“We are excited to see this project reach another milestone, and are grateful for the support provided by SCIPAC and related government authorities in Shanghai,” said Steve Kromer, INVISTA’s senior vice president and project leader for this major investment.

The company has begun permitting and engineering work for the first phase of this project. Subject to obtaining all approvals required by the laws of the PRC, groundbreaking for the plant is expected in early 2013.

When completed, the plant will be the most energy efficient and technologically advanced nylon intermediates plant in the world, underscoring the company’s continuing focus on improving energy efficiency and developing innovative technologies.

“The plant will also expand our global production capability, further strengthening our global leadership position in nylon intermediates and fibers and demonstrating our commitment to meeting the increasing demand for these products in China and the rest of Asia,” Kromer continued.

INVISTA announced early this year that it was moving forward with its plans to construct a manufacturing facility at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park to meet the demand for nylon 6,6 intermediates and polymer in China and the rest of Asia.

The company’s nylon 6,6 products are used in a wide range of applications, such as airbags, carpet, plastics and outdoor equipment. As part of its commitment to the nylon industry in Asia, the company kicked off the expansion of its airbag and industrial nylon manufacturing plant in the Qingpu district of Shanghai. The expansion is expected to approximately double the existing plant’s capacity by 2013 when construction is complete.
