By the end of 31st December, the running total reserve purchase of 2012/13 was 5.18 million ton, more than 70% of the annual output. Supported by reserve, spot price continued to rise slightly. The replenishment from textile used to be active by the end of the year, while during this time market sales did not improve much and reserve kept to be the main activity, commercial carryover stocks declined to the historical low and Xinjiang stock reduced by 94% Y/Y.
CCA cotton warehousing and logistics branch made a survey to 132 member warehouses, by the end of December, 2012, commercial carryover cotton stock was 301,000 ton, comprising 262,000 ton of inland cotton, and 390,000 ton of Xinjiang cotton, the total number reduced by 14,000 ton, and down by 696,000 ton Y/Y. Within the commercial carryover cotton stock, Xinjiang cotton was 45%, inland cotton was 26%, and import cotton was 29%. Based on this, commercial cotton carryover stock nationwide was 369,000 ton, 11,000 ton less over the month. During this month, commercial cotton of 55,000 ton was dispatched from 22 Xinjiang transfer stations via railway to inland, 1,000 ton more over the month, and 123,000 ton less than last December.
1. Commercial carryover stock in Inland By the end of December, the commercial stocks in 110 inland warehouses totaled 262,000 ton, 13,000 ton less over the month, while 55,000 ton more Y/Y. In inland stocks, there are 37% ton of Xinjiang cotton, 30% ton of inland cotton and 33% of import cotton. As for the distribution of inland stocks, Shandong and Jiangsu provinces still have the largest shares; about half of the national total, then followed by Henan, Hebei and Hubei provinces. Among these, Shandong has 27%, 2% more over the month, Jiangsu increased 3% over the month to 23%, Henan was 4%, 4% down over the month; Hubei was 26%, 8% up over the month; Hebei was 4%,unchanged; Anhui was 3%, 1% down and Hunan was 1%, unchanged.
2. Xinjiang commercial carryover stocks By the end of December, the carryover stock in 22 warehouses in Xinjiang was 39,000 ton, 27,000 ton less over the month, while 642,000 ton less Y/Y. Among these, 95% was Xinjiang cotton and 5% of import cotton. In December, commercial cotton transported via railway was 55,000 ton, 1,000 ton more over the month, while 123,000 ton less than last December. Calculation based on this was 13,000 ton Xinjiang cotton still on the way by the end of December.
