Chinese tourists buy more apparel in Spain: Report

Tourists from China spend the most on buying apparels in Spain, according to 'The Textile Trade in Figures 2012’ report released by the Spanish Business Association of Textile Trade (Acotex).
 
According to the report, every Chinese tourist spent an average of ?34.12 on buying apparel in Spain in 2012, while tourist from Japan spent an average of ?23.41 on trip to Spain.
 
Visitors from the US, Mexico and Russia spent an average of ?06.85, ?04.98 and ?30.81 on buying clothing in 2012, the report said.
 
The average expenses made on buying fashion apparels in Spain was the highest by the Chinese tourists, while in terms of total amount of money spent on buying clothing out of the total purchases made in Spain was the highest by Russian tourists.
 
Around 21 percent of total tax-free purchases made by the Russian tourists in Spain were for buying clothing, while the amount spent by Chinese on garments was around 16 percent of the total amount spent on tax-free purchases during the year.
 
The respective share of tourists from Japan, Brazil and Mexico on purchases of clothing was 5.83 percent, 4 percent and 3.93 percent out of the total tax free purchases made by them.
 
Most of the apparel purchases by tourists in Spain last year were made in Barcelona, which accounted for 44 percent of all clothing bought by tourists in 2012. Madrid and Malaga accounted for 31 percent and 8 percent of all garments bought by tourists last year.
 
'The Textile Trade in Figures 2012’ is the only report and main source of information concerning textile distribution in Spain, and a reference document for textile sector companies, government, media and other institutions.
 
The report sets out in detail the main figures and the sector’s data like turnover, number of employees, etc. in 2012.
