3D printing will change apparel e-commerce in China

The advent of 3D printing technology will change e-commerce in apparel, according to Liu Yue Ping, representative of the Guangdong Provincial Clothing Industry Association.

 

Speaking at the 2013 China International Fashion Festival and Guangdong Liuhua Fashion Week, held in Bai Ma wholesale garment market in Guangzhou, the largest city in China’s Guangdong province, Liu said the ever-changing information technology coupled with 3D garment printing technology will enable people to order customized clothing while staying at home.

 

According to Liu, more and more people in China will opt to buy their clothes online, as e-commerce would become an additional shopping option for them, Guangzhou Daily reported.

 

Liu said in near future 3D printing technology and cloud version of the Housing Technology would be officially combined with fashionable clothing, enabling consumers to find their favourite dress styles from the cloud version.

 

Bai Ma clothing market general manager Chen Jiuzhou said they are working with e-commerce experts from Jinan University and hope to develop the first ‘online fitting room’ software, which will help people know whether a particular apparel would fit them by click of a mouse, after entering their own statistics.

 

In 2012, e-commerce trade in Guangzhou rose by 130 percent year-on-year, much greater than the growth seen in traditional model of business, as per the data from the Guangzhou Economic and Trade Commission.
