Chinese envoy commends China-Africa Cotton Zambia

China’s ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao has commended the China-Africa Cotton Zambia Limited (CACZ) for significantly contributing to increasing production of Zambian cotton farmers.

 

“China-Zambia cooperation in agricultural field benefit a lot to the local people,” Mr. Zhou said during the official opening of Acid Seed-delinting Plant at the Chipata based CACZ, last weekend, a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Zambia said.

 

Mr. Zhou recognized the contributions made by CACZ in significantly increasing cotton production in a form of ‘company plus farmers’, wherein the company offers seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc. to farmers who in turn grow and sell cotton to the company.

 

He reassured that the Chinese Government and companies are willing to support Zambia in the development of agriculture, which becomes a more and more important field of cooperation between China and Zambia.

 

“Compared with gold and diamond which can only be harvested once, agriculture is much more precious because land can give us repeated harvests,” Ambassador Zhou said and called upon the Zambian farmers to make the best use of the rich resources of arable land and water and tap the potential of agriculture, so as to “put more money in pockets” of farmers and investors.
