The exports of textiles from Spain surged 13.9 percent year-on-year to ?.735 billion in the first eight months of the current year, according to the data released by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
Of these, the exports of apparel registered ?.685 billion, showing a year-on-year rise of 19 percent, according to the data.
During the same period, Spain imported textiles worth ?.196 billion, rising at 4.3 percent year-on-year. The apparel sub-sector recorded imports valued at ?.112 billion, up 4.4 percent year-on-year.
Thus, total Spanish textile trade balance was negative ?.461 billion during the eight-month period.
In July 2013, Spain exported overall textiles worth ?11 million, while it imported ?.322 billion of textiles.
Spanish exports and imports in the apparel sub-sector in July 2013 were valued at ?20.2 million and ?.009 billion, respectively.
In 2012, Spanish textile and clothing exports grew at 9.1 percent year-on-year to ?0.733 billion, with the apparel sector exports rising at 13.4 percent year-on-year to ?.473 billion.
