The industrial production of textiles and apparel in Italy grew by 10.5 percent year-on-year in August 2013, according to the latest report on Industrial Production Index published by Italian Institute of Statistics (ISTAT).
Despite the increase incurred in the sector, the index of the overall industrial production in the country registered a decrease of 4.6 percent in the month of August, compared to the same period in 2012.
According to the report by ISTAT, the highest growth in the Industrial Production Index has been recorded in the textiles and clothing sector of the country.
However, in the field of manufacturing textiles and clothing, the index increased only by 0.9 percent during the month, compared to the same period last year.
The largest decrease in industrial production was recorded in the manufacturing of machinery and equipments, which also included textiles and clothing machinery. The Industrial Production Index in the manufacturing of machinery and equipment registered an 8.8 percent decline year-on-year, in the month of August 2013.
The Industrial Production Index measures monthly the evolution of the volume of industrial production in the country, excluding construction. With effect from January 2013 the index is calculated with reference to the base year 2012 using the Ateco 2007 (classification of economic activity coding tool).
