The value of textile exports from Pakistan increased by 9.99 percent year-on-year to US$ 3.576 billion during the first quarter of fiscal year 2013-14 that began on July 1, 2013, according to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Cotton fabric fetched US$ 711.33 million for Pakistan during the July-September 2013 period, followed by cotton yarn which earned US$ 587.567 million, knitwear with US$ 575.337 million, bed wear with US$ 564.005 million, and readymade garments with US$ 477.067 million.
The textile group exports accounted for 53.28 percent of US$ 6.712 billion worth of total Pakistani exports made during the three-month period.
In September 2013, Pakistan’s textile exports were valued at US$ 1.270 billion, registering a growth of 15.98 percent compared to August 2012, and a rise of 15.34 percent year-on-year.
During the month, bed wear exports shot up by 67.98 percent year-on-year to US$ 247.813 million, while cotton fabric exports declined by 2.42 percent year-on-year to US$ 243.556 million.
Depreciation of the Pakistani rupee and consistent supply of gas are among the reasons for growth of Pakistani textile exports during the month.
From July to September 2013, Pakistan imported textiles worth US$ 523.813 million, of which synthetic and artificial silk yarn accounted for US$ 135.613 million, followed by synthetic fibre with US$ 94.469 million, and raw cotton with US$ 72.601 million. Other textile items accounted for US$ 174.358 million.
During last fiscal year which ended on June 30, 2013, textile and clothing exports from Pakistan grew by 5.9 percent from US$ 12.34 billion in 2011-12 to US$ 13.06 billion.
