The textile and clothing sector of the western North African country of Morocco has been experiencing major development, said the Moroccan Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, at the recently concluded textile shows ‘Maroc in Mode’ and ‘Maroc Sourcing’ held in the city of Casablanca.
According to the Minister, the textiles sector of the country has begun to add value by manufacturing its own products which are now being exported internationally, emerging as one of the key sectors in the country.
The Minister said events like these organized by the Moroccan Association of Textile and Apparel (AMITH) help boost the Moroccan textiles sector.
Mr. Hafid said the textile sector is one of the most important in the country creating nearly 175,000 jobs and exporting goods worth 31 billion dirham.
The sector is doing better and has shown resilience in the most difficult times, and the Ministry is confident regarding its ability to grow further in the years to come, he added.
AMITH CEO Mohammed Tazi said the main objective of the association is to increase the overall importance of the country as a production center for textiles and clothing, and hosting such events help boosting these sectors.
Over 300 exhibitors displayed various products during the two simultaneously held shows, of which 135 were Moroccan textile and clothing firms. International clothing and textile firms from Turkey, France, Spain and Portugal also participated in the events.
Organized by AMITH in collaboration with Export Morocco (Maroc Export), the Maroc in Mode show provides a platform for suppliers of fashionable clothing to display their products, whereas the Maroc Sourcing show gives an opportunity to textile and apparel entrepreneurs to source fields of fabrics, laundry services, equipments, machineries and other textile/apparel related services.
