Clothing sales at hypermarkets and large discount department stores in South Korea fell in October 2013 due to warm weather.
According to the figures released by the Ministry of Industry, clothing sales declined by 15.2 percent in October, compared to the same month of last year, mainly because the average temperature in October was slightly higher than the previous years.
The 15.2 percent decline in clothing sales was much higher than the 6.4 percent year-on-year decrease in total sales at large discount stores during the month.
Among clothing, the sale of children’s clothing dipped the most. While men’s clothing sales decreased by 10.4 percent year-on-year, womenswear sales dipped 6.5 percent year-on-year, according to the data.
