Nonwoven market set to take off in Asia

Technicaltextile.net, an initiative of Fibre2Fashion, plans to release a ‘Nonwoven Compendium’ which will feature those engaged in the whole global supply chain of the nonwoven industry. 

 

With rising incomes, consumption of nonwoven made products is expected to boom in the Asian subcontinent. India and China which make up for one-third of the world population may turn out to be the largest potential markets for nonwoven products in the near future.

 

A Textile Intelligence study highlights that over half the world’s nonwoven fabrics will be produced in Asia by 2020. And why not, after all, between 2001 and 2011, production more or less trebled, and as a result, Asia accounted for over 40% of global nonwoven fabric production in 2011. 

 

According to data sourced from Asia Nonwovens Fabric Association, Asian nonwoven fabric output rose 3.8% in 2012 over 2011 to reach 3.21 million tons. In India alone, it surged 19.5% to 222,640 tons in 2012 year-on-year. 

 

When compared to India, Chinese nonwoven production grew by a more modest 5.3% in 2012 over 2011. However the country continues to hold pole position in nonwovens production by accounting for around 67% of, overall Asian nonwovens output. 

 

According to a new study from US-based The Freedonia Group, global demand for nonwovens is forecast to rise 7.2 percent per year through 2017 in developing areas of the world.   

 

The study notes that Asia/Pacific was the largest regional market for nonwovens in 2012, with 41 percent of the global total.  It says growth will be driven in large part by China, which will account for 46 percent of global gains through 2017.
