Turkey exported carpets worth $178,414 during the month of January 2014, indicating a rise of 7.5 percent compared to the same month last year, as per the data released by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM).
According to the January 2014 Export Data Report of TIM, the country exported $178,414 of carpets during the month of January, whereas last year, Turkey exported carpets amounting to $165,998 during the same month.
Carpet exports from Turkey accounted for 1.5 percent of the overall products exported from the country during the January 2014 month.
According to the TIM data, the highest exports were made from the machine-made carpets sector with exports totaling $172,827 during the month of January, indicating a rise of 8.7 percent compared to the same month last year.
Meanwhile, exports of hand-woven carpets plunged by 21 percent year-on-year to $5,586 during the month of January 2014.
Saudi Arabia remained the main destination for carpet exports from Turkey, accounting for 15 percent of the country’s overall carpet exports during the month of January. Turkey exported carpets amounting to $26,645 to Saudi Arabia during January.
Libya ranked second with Turkey exporting $21,965 of carpets to the country in January, followed by the US with $17,653, Germany with $1,485 and the UK with $6,772.
In 2013, carpet exports from Turkey totaled US$ 2.196 billion, indicating a surge of 9.3 percent compared to 2012.
