Pakistan : Textile Quota Exports Surges 27 Percent |

According to the data released by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), during the first seven-and-a-half months (January-August 11) of the 2003 quota year, the textile quota exports to the US, European Union (EU), Canada and Turkey registered a growth of over 27 per cent in value and 17 per cent in volume.
According to EPB, the highest increase of 62 per cent in value was recorded in exports to Turkey followed by the EU 34.7 per cent, Canada 19 per cent and the US 18 per cent.
In terms of quantity, the quota exports grew by 57 per cent in case of Turkey followed by the EU 22.5 per cent and Canada nine per cent. The exports to the US during this period registered a negative growth of four per cent.
The average unit price of Pakistani textile products has increased by 23.8 per cent for the US; nine per cent each for the EU and Canada and 3.5 per cent for Turkey.
The total quota exports, made during January-August, 2003 were 2,272 million square metres (Sme) with total value of US$1,654 million. These compared favourably with the total export of 1934.9 million Sme worth US$1,296 million during similar period of 2002.
The country-wise break-up of the exports reveals that the exports to the US were 455.9 million sme worth US$719 million; to the EU 1,551.9 million Sme worth US$846.5 million; Canada 22 million Sme worth US$28.7 million and Turkey 202 million Sme worth US$59.5 million.
